So, where's the beef?

http://www.switched.com/2008/09/09/live-from-apple-new-ipod-nanos-itunes-upgrade-and-more/

I especially wonder about this ditty..."We're upgrading to 120GB at $249.""

But he is not making the "thick" classic any more?  So no more 160GB??

I thought people were hoping for more capacity/bigger hard drives.

Only Apple could call a downgrade an upgrade, and convince their minions it is true.

Apple: 160GB i-pod classic (Hate i-tunes, but where else can I buy TV programs?)

Well, to be fair, the "upgrade" is for the thinner 80GB device, since the thicker version was dropped.

I think what is happening now is that the Classic has come full circle. It started as a music player, gained video capability, but now with the Touch, has returned to its roots. Sure, it plays video quite nicely, but its not the device that the Touch is. And if video is your thing, which device is more attractive? People just weren't buying the 160GB, and as Flash grows larger and cheaper, eventually i see the Classic being discontinued. A 64GB Touch will probably be the tipping point.

Well, I have a 160GB and my wife has an 80GB.  As we use lots of videos, podcasts, and music... she is getting near the end of her space and has threatened to trade me.  If I can get her a 120GB, it may hold her off for a while and still leave with more storage than her for my stuff.  Wonder when they will get a 1TB ipod touch?

I still have my 5.5 gen iPod. 80GB, and its probably got about 50GB worth of music/podcast/videos. Don't get me wrong, I could easily fill it up and if they're my rips, I always encode at high bit rates. But i've gotten away from cramming as much stuff onto my iPod as possible. Not counting podcasts, I probably only listen to the same 10 or 20GB's of music in a given period.

My iPod still has a bunch of stuff i probably don't even remember i put on, but the iPhone is all based on playlists now.
